Mexico earthquake and hurricane

The magnitude 8.1 earthquake in Mexico caused severe damage with the Mexican IARU member society FMRE activating its National Emergency Network.

In use is 7.060 MHz and the net may also be on 3.690 MHz to handle any emergency traffic after the earthquake occurred off Mexico’s Pacific coast.

The tremor was felt around in Hondras, Guatemala and Honduras, but earlier fears of a major tsunami did not occur.

The same National Emergency Network is being used for Hurricane Katia, that was due to make landfall from the Gulf of Mexico.
