Message from IARU Region 3 to NZART on its 100th Anniversary

On behalf of the International Amateur Radio Union Region 3 and the radio amateurs across Asia-Pacific, I extend our warmest congratulations to the New Zealand Association of Radio Transmitters (NZART) on the occasion of its 100th Anniversary and Annual Conference.

This significant milestone is further distinguished by the participation of representatives of both the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) Administrative Council and IARU Region 3. Present at this historic celebration are Tim Ellam, VE6SH, President of the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU), representing the IARU Administrative Council; Wisnu Widjaja, YBØAZ, President of IARU Region 3; and Oscar Reyes, VK3TX, Member of the IARU Region 3 Executive Committee. Their presence reflects the strong and enduring relationship between NZART and the global amateur radio community.

For a century, NZART has been the cornerstone of amateur radio in Aotearoa New Zealand. From the pioneering operators of 1926 to today’s innovators in digital communications, NZART has consistently advanced technical excellence, safeguarded amateur spectrum allocations, and provided invaluable public service during times of emergency and national need. The international amateur radio community continues to recognize NZART’s leadership and contribution, including its outstanding support during the Christchurch earthquake and numerous other emergency situations where amateur radio communications proved vital.

NZART’s dedication to education, mentoring new generations of radio amateurs, encouraging youth participation, and fostering international goodwill exemplifies the values that the IARU proudly promotes worldwide. Through its commitment to service, innovation, and friendship, NZART has demonstrated that amateur radio remains a powerful force for community development and international understanding.

As NZART celebrates its first century of achievement, we look forward with confidence to its continued leadership in spectrum protection, technological advancement, emergency communications, and the promotion of amateur radio throughout New Zealand and beyond.

May this centennial celebration and conference inspire new generations of radio amateurs and strengthen the spirit of cooperation and friendship that has defined NZART throughout its remarkable history.

On behalf of the IARU Region 3 Executive Committee and the amateur radio community across the Asia-Pacific region, we extend our sincere congratulations and best wishes to NZART on this historic occasion.

73 and congratulations on your centenary.

IARU Region 3
On behalf of the Region 3 Executive Committee
