Brunei Amateur Radio Association Commemorates 100 Years of IARU with Special Event Station V84SRU

Brunei Darus­salam – 25 Octo­ber 2025 — The Brunei Darus­salam Ama­teur Radio Asso­ci­a­tion (BDARA) proud­ly launched spe­cial event sta­tion V84SRU to mark the 100th anniver­sary of the Inter­na­tion­al Ama­teur Radio Union (IARU). The cel­e­bra­tion, held on Fri­day, 24 Octo­ber 2025, at the Sul­tan Has­sanal Bolki­ah Sta­di­um, hon­ored a cen­tu­ry of glob­al col­lab­o­ra­tion in ama­teur radio and high­light­ed BDARA’s ongo­ing con­tri­bu­tions to com­mu­ni­ca­tions, edu­ca­tion, and emer­gency pre­pared­ness in Brunei.

The event show­cased the vital role of ama­teur radio in glob­al com­mu­ni­ca­tion and dis­as­ter response. A high­light was a spe­cial pre­sen­ta­tion by Wis­nu Wid­ja­ja YBØAZ Pres­i­dent of IARU Region 3, who out­lined IARU’s his­to­ry, achieve­ments, and ongo­ing ini­tia­tives. He empha­sized IARU’s func­tion as the “umbrel­la” fed­er­a­tion of nation­al ama­teur radio soci­eties, rep­re­sent­ing 167 nation­al asso­ci­a­tions, three regions, and an Inter­na­tion­al Secretariat.

Key high­lights from the pre­sen­ta­tion includ­ed IARU’s core mis­sions:
• Pro­tect­ing and enhanc­ing ama­teur radio spec­trum access through the ITU and region­al telecom­mu­ni­ca­tions orga­ni­za­tions.
• Advo­cat­ing for stan­dards to reduce spec­trum inter­fer­ence.
• Pro­mot­ing ama­teur radio’s role in emer­gency com­mu­ni­ca­tions, dis­as­ter response, and mit­i­ga­tion.
• Rec­og­niz­ing mem­ber soci­eties as the “build­ing blocks” of IARU, ensur­ing glob­al coop­er­a­tion and engagement.

This mile­stone cel­e­brates 100 years of inter­na­tion­al coop­er­a­tion and inno­va­tion in ama­teur radio,” said Wis­nu, YBØAZ. “Through the ded­i­ca­tion of vol­un­teers and the resilience of ama­teur radio net­works, IARU con­tin­ues to sup­port glob­al com­mu­ni­ca­tion, edu­ca­tion, and emer­gency preparedness.”

The spe­cial event sta­tion V84SRU invites ama­teur radio enthu­si­asts, oper­a­tors, and the pub­lic to cel­e­brate this cen­ten­ni­al mile­stone, explore advance­ments in emer­gency telecom­mu­ni­ca­tions, and engage with IARU Region 3 initiatives.
