Brunei Darussalam – 25 October 2025 — The Brunei Darussalam Amateur Radio Association (BDARA) proudly launched special event station V84SRU to mark the 100th anniversary of the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU). The celebration, held on Friday, 24 October 2025, at the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium, honored a century of global collaboration in amateur radio and highlighted BDARA’s ongoing contributions to communications, education, and emergency preparedness in Brunei.
The event showcased the vital role of amateur radio in global communication and disaster response. A highlight was a special presentation by Wisnu Widjaja YBØAZ President of IARU Region 3, who outlined IARU’s history, achievements, and ongoing initiatives. He emphasized IARU’s function as the “umbrella” federation of national amateur radio societies, representing 167 national associations, three regions, and an International Secretariat.
Key highlights from the presentation included IARU’s core missions:
• Protecting and enhancing amateur radio spectrum access through the ITU and regional telecommunications organizations.
• Advocating for standards to reduce spectrum interference.
• Promoting amateur radio’s role in emergency communications, disaster response, and mitigation.
• Recognizing member societies as the “building blocks” of IARU, ensuring global cooperation and engagement.
“This milestone celebrates 100 years of international cooperation and innovation in amateur radio,” said Wisnu, YBØAZ. “Through the dedication of volunteers and the resilience of amateur radio networks, IARU continues to support global communication, education, and emergency preparedness.”
